I went to a sleepover last night!
I have been teaching the JR OWL (Our Whole Lives) program at our church which started in September and ends in May. This program is for youth in grade 8 and 9 and focuses on sexuality education.
Part of our goal is to create a cohesive, bonded group that will enter our youth group next year. To this end, we held our first sleepover last night, starting at 5 pm, we offered a lesson, then had a pizza dinner, then another lesson. At about 9 pm, the "fun" part of the evening began. This included games, movies, playing sardines in a darkened church (very large building), and enjoying a bonfire at midnight in a snow-filled environment.
Of the dozen or so people there, most of us fell asleep by 4 am for a few hours, but 4 keeners stayed up all night and played their own games, such as truth or dare. My daughter Zoe is part of this group, and she woke up this morning having had her face drawn on with permanent marker by these kids. I got up at 7:30 and made lots of pancakes for everyone. We all went home around 9 am, early enough so we'd be gone when the regular service started. This was a very successful event. Sorry we forgot to bring a camera.
