Homeschooling Activities
We decided not to do swimming this term, prefering to wait until spring. Jack has caught up to Owen and will probably get ahead of him, but Owen can catch up later on. I am just not mistress of my own time these days and have to be patient until I am finished my articling.
Last Friday, we went to the Museum of Nature, located in this, Canada's capital. They have a really neat program called the Trading Post, where kids can bring in items from nature such as rocks, shells and bones and trade them in for "credit" in the form of points.
They can then trade for other items they don't have or build up their points in order to be able to "buy" the bigger point items, such as a big shark tooth or small skull for 100 points. While all of this trading is going on, the naturalists teach the kids how to identify their finds and encourage them to keep the better specimens they have for their own collections.
Owen is very excited about participating in this program, and last night we organized some stuff he can trade in when we go in, hopefully this Saturday.
